Transformers 2, a stunning example of how to NOT do a sequel.

I had the the misfortune to see Michael Bay's terrible excuse for a sequel "Transformers 2". If you one of these people who have been on Twitter spouting off
"Transformers 2 waz teh awesomeest" then this isn't for you as you don't care about quality in your cinema anyway.

There was no excuse for the movie to be this bad. The story was absolutely terrible, the was little to no character development, and the whole thing was overly long. The writing was aimed at the lowest common denominator and the effects, while very good in some instances, were so poorly framed that you couldn't identify what you were looking at. For 300 million dollars you think that a studio or Steven Spielberg would have looked this thing over before it released, and if they did the shame on them for such a horribly constructed piece of crap. I know it's making tons of bank right now and really that just shows truly how low the standards of the viewing audience are these days.

Lovely grilling weather.

You know, Sunday would be a great day to grill out for the holiday right? Sunshine, warm breeze, mouth-watering aromas wafting up from the grill it'll be wondiferous! Of course that's crazy talk! We have to have rain, not just a little rain, I'm talking flooding the road lose all satellite reception rain. It's a conspiracy against the gods of grilling, I swear it is.

This is getting really old.

Today was gonna be great, I had fully intended to get out and wash and clean out my car. Maybe get out after that and take some photos around town, just really unwind. The boy got to go to his grandparents so that meant I could probably even do a little painting on my miniatures or play a non-kid friendly videogame or hell, read a book in peace. I drag my butt out of bed, make my way to the living room window throw open the curtains and...SNOW! F@CKING SNOW! Again. You could have sworn that someone was belting out the black speech of Mordor in my apartment such was the resulting deluge of profanity. I have slipped into a drinkin funk since then. My whole day dashed on the rocks. Yes it's silly, I know I could have just got on with the day but it's the principal of the thing. It seems that every time I try to plan something of late has complete fallen through. I'd plan a vacation but it would probably just fall apart too. Yeah I'm being pathetic. Bugger off if you don't like it.

Oh and Al Gore. You go to hell.

Got a nice new digital SLR a week ago. I finally have access to the features I miss so much from my Yashicas, namely actual control of the image your taking. Point and shoot digi's are fun for taking web pics for your social network sites but I have craved a little more functionality from my soul-stealer. Now I got it, and boy is it fun. It's a Nikon D60, seems on the low end of digital SLRs but it suits me just fine.

Now I gotta go, Peter Gabriel dvd's to watch and all...

Winter Wunderland

Quite the ice storm this year, there was close to 100,000 without power the first 24 hours but the power companies involved busted a hump to get things set right. There are still many areas without power for now, this being the third day in, but the ice has melted for the most part. There were countless trees and limbs down all over town and the surrounding areas. The current estimate from Craighead electric was around 2000 electric poles down this time, the last time was close to 1500 and it took over a week to get power back to some areas so that should give you some idea what we're dealing with here. Sadly there have been 2 fatalities resulting from this, one in Trumann where the town sheriff was hit by a falling tree while he was removing a fallen limb obstructing the street. The other was an elderly man who suffered the same while removing debris from his yard. I'm surprised that the death toll hasn't been higher but am thankful it's not. Not really a lot of traffic accidents either for a change, usually a little snow and ice falls around here and people go spastic and completely forget how to drive. We got lucky this go around, this could have been much worse.
