Winter Wunderland

Quite the ice storm this year, there was close to 100,000 without power the first 24 hours but the power companies involved busted a hump to get things set right. There are still many areas without power for now, this being the third day in, but the ice has melted for the most part. There were countless trees and limbs down all over town and the surrounding areas. The current estimate from Craighead electric was around 2000 electric poles down this time, the last time was close to 1500 and it took over a week to get power back to some areas so that should give you some idea what we're dealing with here. Sadly there have been 2 fatalities resulting from this, one in Trumann where the town sheriff was hit by a falling tree while he was removing a fallen limb obstructing the street. The other was an elderly man who suffered the same while removing debris from his yard. I'm surprised that the death toll hasn't been higher but am thankful it's not. Not really a lot of traffic accidents either for a change, usually a little snow and ice falls around here and people go spastic and completely forget how to drive. We got lucky this go around, this could have been much worse.

My "Coolest kid in the world"

Every parent feels that their child is the most amazing, wonderful creature on the face of this planet. At least the parents who don't need to be shot do anyway. I have to say that I'm jealous of his manly facial hair. I am however concerned with his growing disdain for the British Parliament. His going on about gun powder and plots and what-not is unsettling sometimes.

This says a lot about my family.

I don't know what the hell this is. It stands outside my grandmother's house in the front yard for all the world to see. I have no idea what it means, if it has any kind of religious meaning, or if it is in fact an earmark of some genetic insanity that has indeed been passed on to me. Those of you who know me best may gain some insight into the weirdness that is my family.

My one election blog.

Since it seems to be so popular, I too will write about this momentous occasion. Am I all gushy about America's first black president? No. Should I be? Possibly. I admit that it is,"shudder", historical in scope. Then again isn't every election, for ill or good? I have heard so many media heads yammering on with stars in their eyes about how much this is going to change America for the better I could just about puke blood. I seriously doubt this is going to change any racist's outlook on life, and that goes for racists on both sides of the equation. I could say that the situation in the country is beyond comprehension but it's not. It's simple human nature. We've taken a good step to equalizing things but I don't see any significant change coming over night like all the talking heads keep acting like is going to happen. America's race problems won't be going away, the poor will be poor, the scumbags of the world will still hate us, business as usual.

My God, am I really this cynical these days?

Why are all my good thoughts gone by the time I'm here?

I never fails, I come up with some outstanding thing that will illuminate your souls and I shove it to the back with all the other stuff until I get on here and when the time comes I got nothing. One day I know I'm gonna be on here and that cure for cancer and the five step process to bring about peace in the middle east will just spill out in one long painful literary birth. Behold mystery of mysteries! A shining son is born to ease the troubles of man!

Probably not, I get about as far as "you know, Joel's jumpsuit in season 3 of MST3K just look so much more believable than the KTMA days one did." and all hope for humanity is lost. Write it down you say? Never! It all comes out so much more amusing this way, besides a good dose of laughter really would be a better first step than any other plan I could come up with.
